Mary Geraldine “Gerri” Berry, 76, of Oak Island, formerly of Asheboro, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Asheboro.
Ms. Berry was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and “Grammy Bear”. She worked many years at the Sheriff’s Department, as a 911 dispatcher, and at the tax department. She was living “Gerri’s Dream” in her beach house at Oak Island after retirement. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family while also working on various genealogy projects. While she loved Elvis her entire life, it was Kiefer Sutherland in “24” that gave her a new obsession later in life.
She was preceded in death by her mother Cassie Jane Morgan Dennis Long, father Hubert Cecil “Sap” Dennis, and stepfather Lacy Glenn Long.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Hancock of Seagrove; her brother, Bucky Dennis and wife Barbara of Asheboro; her son, Eddie Berry and wife Judy of Asheboro; her daughter, Ramona Miller and husband Darrell of Asheboro; her grandchildren, Kimberly Ingold and husband Justin of Seagrove, Matthew Miller of Snead’s Ferry, Cassie Higgs and husband Chris of Eden, Jacob Berry of Raleigh, and great-grandchildren Loken Ingold and Sadie Higgs.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, from 12 – 2 PM, at the Sunset Avenue Church of God in the Family Life Center located at 900 Sunset Ave, Asheboro, NC 27203.
