Clyde Smith Jr (AKA Smitty) to his friends and family, was born on May 20th, 1951; to Betty Legrande Thomas and Clyde Smith Sr in New York City.
On Monday May 10, 2021 he was called home by our Lord to join his mother, Betty Thomas; father, Clyde Smith Sr; and sisters, Claudette Reynolds and Andrea Thomas; who preceded him in death.
Clyde was born and raised in Harlem, N.Y. and later as a teen moved to Staten Island with his mother, and youngest sister, Darlene, where he continued his education. He saw and overcame many of life’s obstacles during his journey through life.
Clyde (AKA Smitty) worked in maintenance engineering helping others. He became a member of Parkchester Baptist Church in the Bronx, N.Y. where he sang in the Who So Ever Will men’s choir.
He loved his service to the Lord, where he met and married his wife Gail Vason on Sept 4th, 1997. Clyde’s health began to take a turn, however he stayed strong and kept his faith in the Lord. Five years ago, he relocated to Troy, N.C. He was stubborn at times and yet could be funny because he loved to mess with your last nerve. Clyde will always be remembered in the hearts, and memories of everyone who knew and loved him. He will be missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gail Vason Smith; daughter, Valerie Stevens; sister, Darlene Spatcher; nieces, Freya Casey, Pauline Senior, Talibah Thomas, Lygia Davenport Wilson (aka) God daughter, Emerald Spatcher, and Keanna Casey; nephews, Leon Thomas, Sean Joseph, Lamont Joseph, Diamond Spatcher, Sterling Spatcher, Devon Casey Jr, and Khasad Irizarry; as well as a total of 23 great nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
