Sophia- Ella Mae Grant Kersey, 88, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at her home. Born June 29, 1933 in Nantahala, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Wiley Grant and Lily Luella Wilson Grant.
Ella Mae received her formal education from Otter Creek School in Nantahala where she attended until completion of the 9th grade. She was a devout Christian, and accepted Christ as her savior in her teen years. She attended and was a member of numerous churches throughout her life which included; Camp Branch Baptist of Nantahala; Union Hill Baptist Church of Nantahala; Sunnyside Baptist Church of High Point; and Solid Rock Baptist Church of Randleman.
Ella Mae was employed with Diamond Hosiery Mill as an inspector for about 10 years. She had several hobbies which included, cooking; canning; baking; freezing; cleaning and talking on the phone to family and friends.
Ella Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joseph Clifton Kersey; siblings, Daniel and Glasta, Wilford, Jewel, and James and Lola; as well as her parents. She leaves to cherish her memories, son; Keith Kersey and his wife Paula of Crab Orchard, KY; grandchildren, Joseph Kersey of Richmond, KY, Maria Owens and her husband Cody of Berea, KY, James Kersey of Crab Orchard, KY, Sarah Kersey of Mt Vernon, KY, and Rebekah Kersey of Williamsburg, KY; great grandchildren, Lilah Owens and Cora Owens of Berea, KY; and siblings, Sanford Grant of Gastonia, NC, Beaulah Riddle of Gastonia, NC, Rose Brown and her husband Eddie of Randleman, NC, Marie Whitfield and her husband Raymond of Marion, NC and Jerry Grant of Gastonia, NC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 10am, Friday, April 8, 2022 at Midstate Cremation & Funeral Service, 304 Lanier Ave, Asheboro, NC 27203, with a service to follow immediately after. Burial will be held at Randolph Memorial Park.
