Mr. Ernest “Wayne” Pugh, 72, a resident of Sophia, went home to be with his Lord February 21, 2021 in High Point Regional Hospital. Wayne was born October 5, 1948 in Randolph County to Ernest Culbert and Betty Trogdon Pugh. He owned Caraway Disposal for 45 years as well as Pastored Living Waters Baptist Church in Sophia. On February 16, 1968 he married Rebecca Johnson. Wayne was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam and was military police. He was a loving father, an exceptional worker, and was the provider for his family. Wayne loved God and preaching the Gospel to his church family. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, and a sister Debbie Brooks.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rebecca “Becky” Pugh of the home; a son, Ernest Dwayne Pugh and wife April of Sophia; a daughter, Angie Gray and husband Brad of Asheboro; his mother, Betty Woods of Asheboro; grandchildren, Aly Gray and fiancé Trevor of Asheboro, Tristan Pugh and fiancée Whitney of Asheboro, Jacob Gray, and Kaili Pugh; a brother, Anthony Pugh of Asheboro; sisters, Denise Dunn and husband Randy of Asheboro and Wendy Rutledge of Asheboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1:00 PM in Living Waters Baptist Church in Sophia, with Rev. Michael Grant officiating. Visitation will be at the church Friday evening from 6-8 PM. Interment will follow the service in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
