Obituary

Archdale- James R. Ritchie, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 a few weeks after his 81st birthday. After years of failing health, he died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

James was born on March 1, 1939, in North Braddock, PA to Ruth and James Ritchie. As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself. He joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17.

At age 16, he met the love of his life, Evelyn Sylves Ritchie. They lived together almost inseparable for over 50 years. The early times were difficult financially; having five children by the age of 22.

James's success came in the bakery industry, where he climbed the corporate ladder to become a very successful businessman.

James loved his wife, family, children, grandchildren, and great-granchildren.  He also had a passion for the stock market, motown music, and shag dancing.

He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, yet a very private person.

James was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!

He is preceded in death by parents, James Raleigh Ritchie and Ruth Schroeder Ritchie and by wife Evelyn Sylves Ritchie and son James Nelson Ritchie.

Mr. Ritchie is survived by children; Patricia Ritchie Spencer of Archdale, NC, Terri Ritchie Hunter of Frisco, TX, Robin Ritchie Maley of Winston-Salem, NC, and David D. Ritchie of Mooresville, NC; 18 grandchildren, over 20 great-grandchildren; sister Arlene Ritchie McLaughlin of Salisbury, NC; along with a host of relatives and friends.

Due to this unusual time in America, a memorial service has not been scheduled.
