Obituary

Larry Wayne Allred, 74, of Troy, passed away February 2, 2023 at his home as he had threatened to do
for years. Larry was born August 10, 1948 in Asheboro, as the son of the late Clara Mae Harvell and
James Hardin Allred.

Some would say he grew up on the wild side. Fast cars, motorcycles and firefighting were the passions in
his younger days that he could openly discuss in public. He began to settle down after his marriage to his
most gracious and beyond patient wife, Joan. They built a beautiful life together full of children,
grandchildren, friends and many miles traveled across the country.

Larry took great pride in providing for his family, he was a lifelong workaholic, always calculating
another way to make money. He had many jobs over the years, but the most successful ones were when
he was self-employed, as he had a hard time accepting instructions from anyone. He was a very talented
leather engraver, sewer, and carpenter. His favorite job came later in life with the prestigious title of
Paw-Paw. Some of his happiest days were those filled with the laughter and patter of little feet being
chased by the “tickle monster”. His arms were always ready to hold a baby for a nap.

Larry was known for his quick wit and ever ready jokes. He enjoyed making others laugh, though we are
glad he kept his “Baywatch buff body” he was hiding to himself.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Clara Mae Harvell and James Hardin Allred; three brothers,
Steve Allred, Roger Burke, Mitchell Walker; one son, and one grandson.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan Haywood Allred; three daughters, Kellie (Dale)
Cutsail, Kerrie (Jason) Dionne, Korrie (Marcus) Ervin; grandchildren, Avery Tedder, Lindsey Tedder,
Elizabeth Tedder, Nora Dionne, Owen Dionne, Blake Ervin, Lydia Ervin, Klaire Ervin; one great-
grandchild, Cora Leigh Greise; his favorite son Jose Carrasquilla; siblings, Joan Carolyn Linder, Donald
Harvell, Tim Miller, Sandy Harvell, and countless friends near and far.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s
Witnesses in Mount Gilead, 125 Myrtlewood Drive, Mt. Gilead, NC 27306. Family will receive guests following the service.
