Robert "Bob" Hester Gooch

Asheboro- Robert “Bob” Hester Gooch, 90, passed away Thursday April 27, 2023 at Clapp’s Nursing Home in Pleasant Garden. Born February 25, 1933 in Durham, he was the son of the late Hester Daniel Gooch and Margaret Teasley Gooch. 

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. 

Bob graduated from Ramseur High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the US Navy for 4 years. He loved being on the aircraft carrier; often staying up late to stare at the stars.  During the day he enjoyed watching the dolphins swimming. Bob enjoyed being outdoors. As a family we would take picnics and visit state parks for hiking. 

Bob was an outstanding father, and very much a family man. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He was a kind and gentle man who tried to see the good in everyone. He often spoke about growing up in Chapel Hill and Durham. He attended UNC Chapel Hill and would often take the family to the campus and the planetarium.

Bob was a credit manager for Liberty Loans in Dunn, NC. After moving to Asheboro so that he could be closer to family, Bob worked several years for the sister company to Liberty Loans called Domestic Loans. He later retired from Randolph Oil Company for which he worked as an attendant for more than 20 years at their BP location near the Asheboro Mall. 

Bob is survived by daughters Lisa Gooch (Randy Cauthren), and Terri Gooch (Dennis Robbins); son, Adam Gooch (Corene); grandson, Noah Gooch and Taco, Bob’s faithful companion. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Mary Peele Gooch.
