Asheboro- William Stephen "Steve" Burns Sr. of Sophia N.C., passed away Thursday January 21, 2021 at his home.
Mr. Burns was born in Wadesboro N.C. July 16, 1941, the son of Wm. Henry and Ruby Hildreth Burns.
Steve was an avid fisherman and sailor, spending as much time as he could near the ocean watching the waves roll in.
He enjoyed camping, teaching his children and their friends to water-ski, snow skiing, and just being outdoors whenever possible.
In his younger years, Steve was an instructor of martial arts with Pai-Lum Kung Fu, and competed nationally.
After his retirement, he could often be found outside tinkering with his windmill or solar panels, gardening, or around his pond feeding his fish. Always present were his adopted 4-legged best friends who followed him faithfully wherever he went.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only son, William Stephen Burns Jr, and daughter Debra Hembree.
Surviving and left to cherish his memory, his wife of 31 years, Rhonda Thornburg Burns of the home. Daughters, Sandra "Sandi" Burns (Michael) of Greensboro, Wendy Burns Meeks (Scott) of Thomasville, sister Michelle Gilmore (Gray) of Rockingham.
Grandchildren, Maurry Chatham (Ashley) of Stokesdale, Zachary Sprinkles (Megan) of Pfafftown, Holly Harrelson of Greensboro, Amber and Jackson Meeks of Thomasville.
Greatgrandchildren, William Sprinkles and Abby Chatham.
His first wife and mother of his three children, Barbara Burns. Special niece Kathy Speights, and many other nieces and nephews.
