Obituary

Asheboro- William Charles Harrelson “Paw Paw”, 97, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 at North Pointe of Asheboro. Born December 21, 1922 in Franklinville, he was the son of the late Levi Harrelson and Ollie Millikan Harrelson.

William was a proud veteran of the Army where he was enlisted from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946.  He enjoyed going to McCrary park to volunteer at the American Legion & the Copperhead’s baseball games; he also liked to go to Nascar races and bowling. He enjoyed watching his great granddaughter Courtney play softball and his great grandson Brody play baseball.  He was a member of the American Legion and served as past Post 45 Commander 1963-1964.

William is survived by his children, Barbara Jo York (Mickey) and Phillip Harrelson (Flona); grandchildren, Donna Gardner (Destry), Cindy Carlyle (Jeff), Steven Harrelson (Angi), Adam Harrelson (Ginger), and Mark Harrelson (Kaitlyn); great grandchildren, Donnie Harrelson, Steven Harrelson Jr, Courtney Carlyle, Brody Gardner, Isabella Harrelson, Calli Harrelson and David Harrelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma Lee Harrelson; and siblings, Charlotte Earl, Becky Raymond, Edna Loflin, Gurney Harrelson, Billy Harrelson, and Bobby Harrelson.

The family will hold a graveside memorial service at 3:00pm, Sunday, August 23, 2020, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4215 New Hope Church Rd, Asheboro, NC 27205. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be sent to Randolph Hospice, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
