It is with great sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of Willie Catherine Greer Tate, 94, on May 5, 2020, in West End, NC at First Health Hospice. Catherine lived in Moore County for the last 2 years with her daughter Beverly and son-in-law Roger Cooper.
Catherine will be greatly missed by her two daughters Beverly Elaine Tate-Cooper and husband Roger of Pinehurst and Catherine Eugenia Tate and husband Tim of Fulton, NY, and son Ralph Edwin Tate, Jr. and his wife Patricia Ann of Aberdeen. She was a proud grandmother of Tamara Jade Tate of Winston-Salem and Ashley Murray of Garner. She was very close to her brother Robert Gene Greer of Ocala, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph Edwin Tate. They were married for 69 years until his death in 2017. Catherine lived her life with great devotion to her family, friends, and church. The Tate's made their home in Greensboro, NC where they were members of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the choir and Shining Light Class.
Catherine was born in Davidson County, Lexington, NC to the late Jessie Absel Frye and Mamie Key Greer. She attended Mars Hill College and later graduated from Wake Forest College with a bachelor’s degree in June of 1950. She was a school teacher in Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties and later employed by Guildford College for 21 years before retiring in 1989.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, NC in the future. Current situation with Covid-19 does not allow for family members to travel and gather safely. Date and time will be announced.
